ADVOCACY, SOCIAL JUSTICE, & LEADERSHIP

Social Justice

I recognize the privilege I hold as a white, queer person who has a non-visible disability that is usually granted access to most places and resources without struggle or conflict despite some of my identities being subjected to persecution and marginalization. I have a commitment to social justice and understand that our systems are not designed to work equally or fairly for everyone. My continuing education along with my undergraduate degree in Sociology, the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society, has allowed me to gain a hands-on, academic awareness of my own social location which better helps me meet you in the context of your identities, cultures, communities, and groups.

As an Oregon State University alum, I stand with my university in recognizing the impact its land grant history has on the indigenous communities in Oregon. Awareness of indigenous history and local land acknowledgment is an important aspect of social justice.

Why is Land Acknowledgement Important?
